Wisudah ceremony in the Lurang Kindergarten.
A most significant change story
May 12th, 2012
Ten second grade Kindergarten toddlers and two teachers are anxiously waiting for ‘their’ ceremony to start: the official recognition of a successful year in the Lurang “Tunas Farmer” kindergarten. For the first time in the Lurang history, ten toddlers will start in July 2012 in the first grade of the village primary school with a good knowledge of reading, writing and counting.
In July 2011, about a year ago, the local Kindergarten opened its doors. The building was renovated by PT Batutua Tembaga Raya in cooperation with the people of Lurang.
The village Yayasan Ina Rifa pays the salaries of two teachers. The teachers get an ongoing capacity building training from the education department with Community Development PT Batutua Tembaga Raya.
The Kindergarten started with eleven toddlers. After a couple of week, more parents were interested in sending their toddler to the Kindergarten. After seven months, the Yayasan had to refuse toddlers who wanted to join because 20 toddlers is the maximum the two teachers can handle in a proper way.
On May 12th, the whole village celebrated one year of Kindergarten with an ‘Open House’ and the graduation ceremony. It was not clear who was the proudest: parents, toddlers or teachers. Everybody got involved in the organization of this event: women’s’ group, church, local village authorities, parents and grandparents.
