A very simple Tee pump has been evaluated for use in villages of wetar – especially wells around 3-5 m deep. This kind of pump is used elsewhere in the tropics and although our pump was able to pump lots of water, it was plain hard work. Why – well the pipes were a little large in diameter, which means the inner pipe carried a significant volume of water. that was heavy to lift.
Watch this space. Version two will be built in next couple of months.
There are potential health benefits. Wells could be capped, children kept safer.
Time will tell how much difference a pump like this can make – but the key for now is to build an improved version, complete with the tee across the top – and then test with villagers. Right now, the ComDev team understand the principles of use. We will post further details for anyone else wishing to make a pump like this.
