Using Media in the Learning Process

USING MEDIA IN A LEARNING PROCESS

FOR ELEMENTARY AND JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL IN LURANG, WETAR, SOUTH WEST MALUKU,

PROVINCE OF MALUKU

The training of ‘media usage’ in teaching-learning process which is given by Education Specialist of Community Development for Kindergarten, Elementary and Junior High School teachers is aimed to motivate the teachers to use a media in learning process. The objective is to enable the students to be more active and understand the subject of tuition faster. After training, the teachers know that ‘media usage’ is very helpful in the learning process to explain the subject matter of teaching and enable the students to understand it easier,i.e. A junior high school teacher is using a human bone replica as a media in explaining the parts of human bones for Biology subject; another teacher is using a globe as a supporting media to teach the subject ‘scale’ in Mathematics.

The 3rd grade teacher is using the corns and tamarind seeds as a media to teach sums in mathematics. The 6th grade teacher is using mixer tools made of aluminum, plastic, steel, copper, glass, wood to explain the conductor and isolator elements. We place margarine on the tip of those mixer tools. And then, we put them in the hot water that is boiling on the stove. The children observe, using a stopwatch, which mixer tools with margarine easily melt. Based on the experiment, the element which the most easily melt is copper, and then plastic, aluminum, steel, glass, and wood is the last element. Through this learning process, the students learn from practice.
